What is the Windows Registry?
|
|
The Windows Registry is
a partition on your hard drive - effectively a
‘database’ where Windows stores settings and options for
the Windows operating system. The Registry also contains
other information and settings for all the software and
hardware in your PC configuration, and is a record of
any preferences you have set. |

How often should I scan my
Registry?
|
|
This depends largely on
the use of your system. We would advise that you run a
scan either once a week or once a fortnight if you are
an active user.
We also advise a scan
after you have removed / uninstalled software, or if
your PC seems to be running more slowly that you think
it should be |

Win Doc Pro window, click on the Backup
button. This will display your backup files, along with

What is the ‘system restore’
option, and what does it do?
|
|
This option is only
available for those who use XP - it is not available for
any other operating system.
The ‘system restore’
feature is part of the Windows XP/ Vista operating
system which allows you to take a snapshot of the
Windows registry and various system files fro purposes
of restoring your system after changes have been made.
This is useful for when you are about to install new
software, drivers or upgrades.
When you check
this option, a system restoration snapshot is taken
before the Win Doc Pro ‘fix errors’ process begins.
To use the restoration system, go to Start
Programs >> Accessories >>
System Tools >> System Restore. |

How do I use the Ignore List?
|
Sometimes Win Doc Pro will list valid registry keys as errors.
When the program is not active, some keys remain in the registry. If
these registry entries are removed, installed software
may perform erratically and sometimes necessitate the
re-installation of the programs to correct the problem.
Win Doc Pro will
flag these as being errors unless you specify them as
items which can be ignored during scans, as they suit
some of the criteria Win Doc Pro uses to determine
whether they are errors or not.
During step 3 of the
scan, Win Doc Pro lists errors and are selected for
repair. It is at this stage that you may send items of
your choice to the ignore list. Once they are on the
ignore list, Win Doc Pro will not act on them or list
them as errors again.
To send items to the
Ignore list:
Click on the
Ignore link next to any item in the list of items
scanned.
To view the items in your
Ignore list:
Click on Settings
in the Win Doc Pro Main window and then click the
Ignore tab.
To remove items from
your Ignore list:
- Go to the Ignore
list by clicking on Settings in the
Win Doc Pro Main window
- Select one or more
items
Click on the
Remove Selected button |

My screen is misaligned and my
Fix Errors Button is missing. What do I do?
|
|
This problem can be
fixed by changing the Windows Fonts Settings.
There are a few
possible steps to resolve this problem - if the first
does not work, try the second, and so on down the list:
- Set your font size
to Normal. To do this, right click on
the Windows Desktop and choose properties.
Then select the Settings tab. Click on
Advanced, and finally, choose Normal
Size 96 DPI and click OK. This
may require you to restart your computer for the new
options to be applied.
- If 1 (above) has not
worked, try changing your screen resolution to 1024 x
768 or even to 800 x 600. This can be done by
right-mouse clicking on the desktop then select
Properties >> Settings >> 1024x768 (or
) 800 x 600 >> OK
- If 1 or 2 (above)
have not worked, we would suggest that you try
uninstalling and then re-installing Win Doc Pro.
Procedure:
To uninstall: Go to Start >> All programs >>
Win Doc Pro >> Uninstall
To re-install: Reinstall Win Doc Pro through the
Win Doc Pro site - going through the scan option.
Your original registration information will still be valid,
and should be used when re-installing your refreshed copy |
